Water Cyclist... Process
Originally in my class we were assigned to do anything related to 'success or failure'. How I came to this I suppose started with the idea of someone trying the impossible... which turned into riding a bike on water.
From there I sort of developed this story where a person who lives in a type of lake village rides his bike over water... collecting messages in bottles...
I find I always like having a story behind what I draw lately... more peices of this whole concept will follow as well as the finished version of this.

Twilight in Provence... an artist walks about.
And the finished. Me and a friend decided his name is Sebastien.
I love drawing the cobblestone rocks around here.

Progress sample - Twilight in Provence
Some progress work for just an illustration of the artist I drew before. I'm using some elements of architecture and things I see around Provence, France. Sketch took 3 hrs including thumbnails, and about 45 minutes into painting...first getting main values. I'm trying to make some simple images for a student exhibition before I leave my study in France.
Some news and such ~
My minicomic Tulp Soldaat (Tulip Soldier) is in the semifinalist round of the Adobe Design Achievement Awards, which is nice considering I submitted it on a spur-on-the-moment idea. Who knows, maybe it will progress on further! We shall see. I really enjoyed making the comic.
Also some good news, three of my illustrations have been chosen to be on display at Nucleus Gallery, after being accepted by the Society of Illustrators Los Angeles. One of the images is a page sample from my children's book, The Fox Child, so that's something I'm most happy about. The images will be on display on their website,
Illustration West 50 from March 30th to April 4th.
For the time being now, I'm wrapping up my last three weeks in Southern France. I've been studying abroad in Provence and traveling all through Europe for the past 3 months. It's been a blast, I've done a lot of sketching and studies but I am looking forward to getting back into a normal rhythm in the States. I should be uploading some of my sketches and new work soon.

Artist of Provence sketch
Haven't been uploading much lately, been studying and traveling through europe. Currently I'm in southern France (Provence) near where Van Gogh stayed... post ear cutting incident. It's a beautiful place, even in the winter.
So I came up with this character, he's an artist who lives in Provence... an inspiring character. I based his color pallet off of sunflowers.

Book Review by Feiwel and Friends
Recently my children's book got personally reviewed by a head editor from Feiwel and Friends, located in big ol' New York City. Got some good, promising feedback; they thought my art was "vivid and strong". Also some criticism - but I'd rather be worthy enough to get advice from an intelligent publishing client than have 'smoke blown up my bottom' by a lesser client, so to speak. It's definitely helped me grow as an illustrator and start my try at networking.

"The Girl and the Fox" Nominated for Annie
Wow, so The Girl and the Fox, a film I worked on with many other talented students has been nominated for an Annie Award! I helped with Background and Layout design. It was nominated for 'best short subject' along side of Pixar and Disney! This is definately a great treat I was not expecting, best luck to it on Feburary 4th!
