A quick sketch of the female Soviet flying ace. Go figure Russians seemed to be the only ones to have female fighter pilots... Here's the reference

"Tulp Soldaat" (Tulip Soldier)
"Tulp Soldaat" (Tulip Soldier)
A mini graphic novel/comic/what have you, set in Holland during WWII. I'm more of an illustrator, not a comic artist so I wanted to make a comic without it looking too much like a ... comic? (and also prove illustrators can do anything a comic artist can do, haha~)
I did not include dialogue or an exact sense of time passing... I just wanted a sense of mood and atmosphere to come from pictures alone.

Venetian Stripes
My finished designs for the food package. I'm pretty proud of how the text and image came about. It has a slight modern italian flair which I like (sometimes italian imagery tends to be more rustic or old looking). I like that the graphic stripes stand out, but the illustration still has a detailed drawing aesthetic when looked up close.

Hey mambo, mambo italiano~
Working on designing a chocolate bar package - I was inspired by the italian andrea stainer packages. Worked up a sketch, and now looking and different comps for type combinations. I'll pick one from those three and then continue polishing up the drawing itself. Ahhh... how I miss my trip to italy... I'd go there again in a heartbeat.

Character Sketches
Some character designs for my next project which is going to be historical fiction. It's loosely based off of the Dutch famine of 1944. I'm re-using the guy from my windmill illustration as I enjoy doing that with my original characters, as well as it being appropriate... haven't thought of a name yet for him.

Night Cellist
Just a personal illustration. I think cello is one of my favorite instruments and I've always liked the structure of northern european houses.
Done while listening to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwHpDOWhkGk
The crows seem to enjoy his music. :]

The Fox Child - Process
The Fox Child - Complete!
Okay. Holy cow, haven't updated with serious stuff in a while.
So, my 32 page book The Fox Child has been finally finished! I'm getting it printed through Blurb.com and hopefully I can send some copies to some publishing companies along the way! I really enjoied working on a project like this, so this really opened a whole new world of illustration for me. I've also started to definately find more of my style, how I work, and my personality as well. Overall, this project (while it almost killed me to finish, nothing a few cups of coffee and some very long nights can't solve) was an extreamly beneficial t
hing for me as an artist and person. I can not show you the text of the book, or all of the pages (for simple privacy reasons), but hopefully the ones I do show you can inspire you.
For those of you who do not know, the story is about a girl who meets a mysterious fox fairy... and discovers many surprises along the way. I have had this fox character created since highschool, and I'm so happy to see him in a finished product...it's very personal to me. This book consists of 32 pages, and I had 10 weeks to make it. I removed the text for privacy reasons. It was a lot of work, but I really really enjoied the whole process. Even if I was the editor, publisher, art director, illustrator and writer.
The first is the book cover (front and back). The following after that are page spreads (meaning a page on each side, so each spread is 2 pages). It is an 8" x 10" standard landscape book.
Here's a preview of 14 of the 32 pages.

Moon Bunny
This was done for my Advertising Illustration class. We had to design 4 sides for a tissue box, and this is what came up with. It's loosely based off of the eastern Asian folklore tale about a rabbit living in the moon that pounds rice cakes. I decided to have the box depict a sequence of events as the rabbit sees the sky, jumps up and turns into the moon with tissues becoming the stars.

The Girl and the Fox - Top 3 Finalist
The Girl and the Fox, a short animated film by Base14 studios, has been chosen as one of the top 3 finalists for the Student Emmy Awards. Director Tyler J. Kupferer along with Producer Nick Allred are being flown over to LA for free to participate in the ceremony! What a great opportunity!
This was a student film I had the great pleasure to work on alongside of many other talented artists. I was hired as layout artist and designer for the backgrounds - so I definitely can't wait to see how the awards go!

Dimitri the Fox Child keyframe
Keyframe concept for my ongoing story about Dimitri, a fox child who turns into a boy. In this keyframe I wanted to depict a good design for how the story feels ... and not worry about rendering/detail. I feel most illustrations in books and animation feel this way. I am having a lot of fun with this story.

Dimitri the Fox Child concept
Dimitri is a character for my own story, set in rural Siberia near the mysterious Lake Baikal. Dimitri has the mysterious ability to turn into a fox and appear to people as both. Concepts for the fox design are following, but it should not deviate far from the color and temperament of the boy. Storyboards for a scene are to follow.
He is lightfooted, intuitive, clever and has a nack for riddles.
